I’ve been rather quiet here lately. I’ve got a few other projects going on that have kept me from writing regularly. However something popped up in my Facebook feed that I thought was worth sharing as it will affect anyone cruising from Galveston in the next 7 months.
A road construction project which will be starting on October 15, 2019 and lasting for about 7 months will be affecting the port area. I’ll just share what was posted on the Port of Galveston Facebook page:
ROAD CONSTRUCTION INFORMATION: The Port of Galveston construction work will impact cruise terminal traffic on Old Port Industrial Road. Construction will begin on October 15th and last for approximately 7 months.
During this time, Old Port Industrial will be reduced to a single lane from 33rd Street to 29th Street and will not be open to traffic inbound to the cruise terminals.
All traffic inbound to the cruise terminals must use 22nd Street for access. Old Port Industrial Road will be open only to traffic exiting Lot A westbound and port shuttles.
All cruise traffic exiting the cruise terminals will be directed to exit onto Harborside Drive at 28th Street.
Only time will tell as to the actual impact this will have on those cruising out of Galveston. It might not be a bad idea to leave yourself a little time to get to and from port!
